'What does the future hold?'
A simple question, with a simple answer, yet why do so many people get it wrong?
The 'future' in question here, of course pertains to the dreaded moment that every manager fears, when the smiling face of the latest would-be superstar, accepting of such faith, not to mention financial backing, from his team, registers with their chosen time trial centre.
The solution is, to me, not obvious. I am not Finz. These statements may, or may not be related.
Does a solution exist? Is it accessible to mere mortals, like I? Is it worthy of a lifetimes devotion? Can the question be bypassed? Can life proceed without such elucidation?
Maybe.
Can one find an optimal strategy, despite the limitations of ones personage?
Probably, but any attempt to seek such an approach only appears to raise more questions: Is the game well defined? Is the Nash equilibrium unique?
I believe, despite all uncertainties, that the task is a legitimate one. Many managers try, some strategies are successful, producing teams to be proud of. Some, fail. Some are cowards, presiding over algorithmic assortments of riders, for whom the term 'team' is applicable in only the very broadest sense. What is the justification given for such an empty approach? Success, usually. But what is success, as a manager of a team? Getting 'ahead' by opportunism, exploitation, or more nefarious means? Or building a team, your team, up from the ground to look how you want it to?
You decide.
The question still remains, and is indeed as pertinent as ever, of the strategy to enter into the future with. I have a strategy. It is not fixed, but is intentional. Consisting of five parts, it can be represented, to a as good an approximation as will be understood by the reader, by the ordered symbols given as follows:
CL: Good
DH: Small
HL: Good
SP: Average
FR: Good
CB: Average
TT: None
TQ: None

I may not be perfect, and my strategy sub optimal, but it is mine, and it is how I want my team to look.
My team may not be perfect, but it is, and always will be, my team.

Late response. Very philosophical. From now on you will no longer be A Fool. Your new name is the GoodFather.
Damn it, you are not supposed to be able to spot the subliminal messages!
I, somehow read, "... and my strategy subliminal, ..." :)
